ITV Programming Schedule ’96

ITV has unveiled a £583 million pound programme schedule for 1996, “designed to meet head on the increasing commercial pressures of the multi channel environment.”
Highlights of the new 1996 season will include two major drama adaptations, Moll Flanders, and Emma; new comedy from the youth market, including the return of Saturday Night Live; a revamped Monday night schedule and an investigation by Prince Edward into the life of his uncle, the Duke of Windsor. It was also confirmed that there will be a fourth weekly episode of Coronation Street. Among new drama projects will be the Thief Takers, the Turnaround; Some Kind of Life and The English Wife.
Comedy on ITV will see Jack Dee, Paul Merton, Shane Richie and Lee Evans make their mainstream debuts. Saturday Night Live returns after ten years – on ITV and its former host, Ben Elton is to write his first TV comedy film for the channel.
Films premiering on ITV in ’96 include Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Sleepless in Seattle, Home Alone II, The Fugitive, Demolition Man, Groundhog Day, Father of the Bride, Single White Female, Unforgiven and Sister Act.
