Saturday night saw ITV’s X Factor come out on top in a talent show faceoff with the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, as a peak of 7.9 million viewers tuned in for the programme’s first half, followed by 7.1 million for the results an hour later.
The programme’s first half averaged 6.9 million viewers, with a share of 36.14%, while its second half drew an average of 7.1 million and a 33.38% share.
The break between the two halves was puncuated by Ant & Dec’s Gameshow Marathon, which also performed well, drawing an average of 6.9 million to secure a share of 34% between 8-9pm.
The BBC’s competing shows performed well, but were consistently beaten by ITV throughout the night. Strictly Come Dancing averaged 6.6 million, securing a share of 34.48% in its first half, while the results programme drew 6.6 million with a 31.15% share. Elsewhere, BBC stalwart Casualty averaged 6.5 million, notching up a 31.48% share between 8:30-9pm.
