ITV Rumoured To Be Considering News At Ten-Thirty

Rumours have surfaced in the trade and tabloid press this week that ITV is considering moving its nightly news broadcast again- this time to 10.30pm- in order to appease the Independent Television Commission (ITC). ITV is currently preparing a proposal for an ITC meeting on 18 May which will discuss the channel’s news output.
ITV was told by the ITC in March that viewing figures for its evening news bulletins had fallen by an unacceptable margin since it changed transmission times from 6.30pm and 10pm to 5.40pm and 11pm last year (see ITV Must Address News Audience Decline, Says ITC
ITV refuses to comment on the possible content of the proposal being prepared and the ITC insist “They know their schedules, it’s up to them.” It has not been made clear what the ITC will do should ITV fail to come up with a viable proposal.
