ITV To Scrap Heart-Shaped Emblem?

ITV is rumoured to be scrapping its heart-shaped emblem and “TV from the heart” theme and is expected to introduce a new logo early next year.

ITV’s new marketing director Jim Hytner is thought to be behind the move, which will be his first at ITV since he joined from Channel 5 last July (see Hytner Quits 5 For ITV).

An ITV spokesperson could not confirm or deny the claims, which appeared in last week’s Media Week but said: “Jim is currently looking at all aspects of marketing across the ITV brands. The results of his review will not be known for weeks or even months.”

Hytner’s predecessor John Hardie introduced the heart-shaped theme three years ago to sit alongside the redesigned regional logos and bring ITV as close to a single brand as possible. However, it is thought that ITV is looking for a more up-to-date identity to unite its regions and establish ITV1 as the central brand among the recently created family of ITV brands (see ITV Rebrands As ITV1).
