Leslie Hill, Chairman of the ITV Council has today issued a statement welcoming the Government’s Broadcasting Bill, announced earlier this morning. “We warmly welcome the Government’s proposals…in particular, ITV welcomes the revised proposals for digital television. We are very glad that the guaranteed allocation for the ITV companies has been increased to half a mulitplex and that the companies will be able to operate new pay TV services alongside the simulcast service if they wish to provide them.”
ITV also referred to the C4 funding statement, “We share the Government’s view that the formula is of value to both ITV and C4….The important principle – that competition between the two commercial broadcasters should be managed in the interests of viewers as well as the broadcasters – is rightly being retained.”
