ITV1 Top In Last Night’s Telly

ITV1 Top In Last Night’s Telly

Cheers ITV1 was last night’s big TV winner, with Coronation Street grabbing around 9 million viewers and more than 50% of the adult viewing share. The British Soap Opera Awards, which followed on from Corrie, held the attention of more than 5 and a half million soap-lovers, 27% of adult viewers.

The first instalment of BBC’s two-part David Attenborough documentary on climate change, Are We Changing Planet Earth?, narrowly beat C4’s Big Brother with over 5 million adult viewers and a share of 23%, compared to BB‘s 21.6% share.

Since the most successful launch night in Big Brother‘s history (see Big Brother Bounces Back And Blows Away The Opposition), viewing figures have fluctuated, with last Saturday’s Eurovision Song Contest drawing far more adult viewers than BB (see Eurovision Trounces Big Brother).

Last night’s results will be disappointing for the Reality TV behemoth, showing soaps and environmental documentaries as more popular than televised tears and tantrums.
