Unforgiven, the new drama with ex-Corrie star Suranne Jones, pulled in more than 7.6 million peak viewers last night, securing ITV1 with a 30.2% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm.
Over 7.1 million average viewers tuned in to see episode one of three, in which Jones plays a woman released from prison on a licence after she killed two police officers as a teenager.
At the same time, BBC One’s Traffic Cops peaked with over 4.4 million viewers, while BBC Two’s new Million Dollar Traders attracted an average of just 1.3 million viewers.
Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother didn’t do much better with just 2.2 million average viewers and a 9.2% average audience share.
Meanwhile, the soaps battled it out for the highest ratings of the evening, with Coronation Street just managing to beat Eastenders to the top spot with more than 10.3 million peak viewers.
The first trip to Coronation Street, which saw the eventful build-up to Molly and Tyronne’s wedding, attracted 10.2 million peak viewers and a massive 42.7% average audience share.
The second episode pulled in more than 10.3 million peak viewers and a 39.7% audience share, while Eastenders peaked with 9.5 million viewers and a 38.4% audience share.
