ITV’s Audience Melts In The Heat
The latest television viewing summary for the week ending 13th August has seen ITV record its lowest ever share of viewing (33.8%). Since the current method of compiling viewing figures was introduced in July 1991, ITV’s previous lowest was 34.1% in the week ending 9th July. An ITV spokeswoman described the figures as a blip at a time when ITV “tries out new programmes and takes risks with new ideas”.
BBC2 has seen its share of viewing soar to 14.1%, its highest since 9th July. It was helped by its majority coverage of the World Athletics Championships and coverage of the Fifth Test between England and West Indies.
Overall television viewing has fallen by 4.1% when compared to the same week last year. With all channels except ITV and BBC1 increasing on last year figures, the fall could be attributed to ITV’s massive 14.6% drop on its 1994 figure.
