JCDecaux Secures Blackpool Street Furniture Deal

JCDecaux has secured the right to handle street furniture sales for the city of Blackpool.
The deal will see JCDecaux supply 200 advertising panels and bus shelters in Blackpool city centre, along its famous sea-front and in its shopping and entertainment centre.
The agreement with Blackpool Transport incumbent, MediaCo, begins immediately and makes Blackpool a key part of JCDecaux’s Conurbation and MainCity network from the start of April. MediaCo will continue to handle all local and regional sales for Blackpool.
The deal, which follows the recent Leicester street furniture win (see JCDecaux Wins Leicester Street Furniture Contract), could prove particularly significant for JCDecaux given that Blackpool is expected to enjoy something of a renaissance when the UK’s gambling laws are relaxed. The city could benefit from the introduction of Las Vegas-style casinos once certain restrictions are lifted.
Commenting on the win, JCDecaux’s sales director, Spencer Berwin, said: “We are delighted to add Blackpool to our network of the UK’s major cities. It increases our position as the leading 6-sheet provider in key conurbations and major cities, giving advertisers guaranteed quality, impact and stand-out.”
Late last year JCDecaux downplayed the prospects for recovery in the global advertising market, by revealing that third quarter sales were down to £224.5 million, a fall of 0.9% against the same period the previous year. Street furniture and billboard revenues were up by around 3% but transport advertising was down by 16.5% (see Advertising Conditions To ‘Remain Tight’, Says JCDecaux).
