JCDecaux Wins 15-Year Street Furniture Contract

JCDecaux has secured the 15-year street furniture contract for Watford, in a deal thought to be worth around £10 million.

The deal, which consists of bus shelters, council information panels, advertising columns and interactive information kiosks, will provide clients with 160 advertising faces and will make JCDecaux the first outdoor contractor with a presence in Watford’s pedestrian areas.

JCDecaux will begin the installation of 20 bus shelters next month and is anticipating that the contract will be fully implemented early in 2003.

Commenting on the deal, JCDecaux’s managing director of street furniture, Pierre Jeanjean, said: “Watford’s new contract is an excellent addition to our existing portfolio in Greater London. We are delighted to be in partnership with Watford Council and are looking forward to providing the creativity and unique style of our street furniture and innovations to the local community.”

Earlier this month JCDecaux, which is Europe’s largest outdoor advertising contractor, released its half year results showing an 8.4% rise in net profits (see JCDecaux Bullish After H1 Profits Announcement). The figures reflected a solid performance from Decaux’s two largest divisions, Street Furniture and Billboard where revenues were up by 5.0% and 9.6% respectively. These increases more than compensated for the losses reported by the Transport division which has been hit by the decline in airport advertising.
