Following yesterday’s decision by the DTI to block Johnston Press’ buyout of Home Counties Newspaper Holdings (subscribers see Johnston’s Agreed Newspaper Takeover Blocked), the two have entered ‘active discussions’ to decided the way forward.
The Government has said that it will refer the deal to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC) if both parties continue as planned. The MMC will not investigate however, until requested to do so by the Office of Fair Trading.
Johnston is expected to challenge the DTI’s decision and will issue a statement shortly.
