Johnston Press Profits Up 21.8%

Johnston Press has announced interim results for the 6-months ending 30 June. Pre-tax profits were up 21.8% to £8.124m. Chairman, Fred Johnston hinted that Johnston may be acquiring new titles; “As this company has pursued a policy of acquiring good newspaper titles, the present situation is obviously one in which the Board is taking an interest.”

With regard to the increase in newspaper costs, he said, “The Group has already implemented a number of successful measures to reduce both consumption and waste and this will mitigate some of the extra cost burden of further newsprint price increases.”
