July-December 1998 ABCs – Performance By Publisher

Here is a full breakdown of each title’s performance in the latest ABC audit, by publisher. The titles lists are not entirely exhaustive as certain magazines may not have reported in this or the previous period or may not have been classed a consumer magazine. This list, therefore, is intended as a guide to the performance of the main UK consumer magazine publishers rather than as a definitive list of each of their titles or total circulations.

Of the titles chosen in each market sector in Newsline‘s ABC Round-Ups (see Press features list), the breakdown of market share, by publisher, is shown here.

The pie chart below shows the market share of all consumer magazines by publisher taken from the July-December 1998 ABC audit. Titles which report annually have not been included. AMV is the market leader with a 17% share. This is mainly because AMV owns Redwood Publishing which produces a number of customers magazines including Safeway Magazine and AA Magazine. These customer magazines have very high circulations and are on the whole distributed for free.
