Soaps

Coronation Street is still the top rated soap opera programme for the three months from July to September 1995. The most popular episode was Wednesday of w/e 1st October which was watched by 16.4 million. Coronation Street has thirteen entries ahead of Eastenders’ highest placing for the Tuesday edition shown in the same week, which was watched by 15.12 million.

Films

The top film of the quarter was BBC1’s My Cousin Vinny which attracted 9.86 million viewers, the joint second placed film was ITV’s repeated showings of Running Man and Feds which both had 9.44 million and the third most watched film of the quarter was BBC1’s Medicine Man.

Comedy

Keeping Up Appearances was the first and second watched comedy of the quarter, being viewed by 12.94 million people and 12.2 million respectively. The third most watched comedy was Tee Off Mr Bean which had 11.96 million viewers.

Light Entertainment

ITV has reclaimed the top light entertainment programme from the BBC, with You’ve Been Framed occupying the top two placings with 12.76 and 12.56 million viewers. The National Lottery is third with 12.39 million.

Drama

ITV dominates the drama category with the top seven programmes. Heartbeat hold the top three slots, with its highest episode coming in the week ending 17/09/95 with 16.42 million viewers.

Sport

No sporting programmes made the top 30 programmes lists between July and September

Factual

There were only seven factual programmes on the list, the highest being ITV’s Strange But True which had 9.1 million viewers. Documentary ITV’s Police Stop was the top rated documentary programme being watched by 11.23 million, nearly two million ahead of the next programme on the list BBC1’s Nightmares of Nature which had 9.67 million viewers.

News

BBC1 has the top rated news programme of the quarter which was the Saturday Evening news shown in the week ending 03/09/95 which attracted 9.27 million viewers. ITN’s most watched news programme was the Monday edition of News At Ten shown in the week ending 27/08/95, which acheived a rating of 8.29 million.
