The latest series of z-list jungle fest I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! gained an average adult audience of more than 7.8 million adults for ITV1 last night.
As barely-recognisable ‘celebs’ bungee-jumped from helicopters and others were immersed in fish guts and mealworms, ITV1 grabbed a 36.4% viewing share over the hour and a half running time between 9pm and 10.30pm.
BBC Two put up a good fight in the timeslot, with Dame Maggie Smith taking the title role in Capturing Mary – the story of a once brilliant writer and critic, reflecting on her younger self and confronting the secrets of the past.
The programme took a share of 14% with an average of more than 2.9 million adult viewers tuning in, whilst Heroes and Villains on BBC One was watched by almost 2.1 million (9.4%).
Earlier, two episodes of Coronation Street pulled in more than 10.1 million adults on average, a 47.8% audience share, and over 9.5 million (41.9%) respectively.
Ian Beale finally showed nutty stepson Stephen the door after the trouble teen previously shot wife Jane, leaving her infertile, in EastEnders at 8pm on BBC One, with the soap’s drama attracting just over 8.5 million adults on average – a 39.1% share.
