Keith Jones Takes Up Chairman’s Role At PPA

Keith Jones, the CEO of Reed Business Information, has taken up the chairman’s position at the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA).

He succeeds Derek Carter, the chief executive of Emap Communications who has stepped down.

Jones, who has been deputy chairman of PPA for the last year, commented on his appointment: “It is both a huge honour and a challenge to be asked to chair PPA. Having a proactive and effective trade body is a real advantage to us all.”

He presented his ideas for the publishing industry at the organisations AGM last week, commenting:”We have to get on to the front foot with very positive messages about what an exciting, vibrant medium we are. A medium for the 21st century for readers, for advertisers and for our next generation of staff.”

He also took the opportunity to praise the relationship the PPA has formed with the Royal Mail to confront the problems posed by plans to introduce a new pricing mechanism. The PPA successfully argued that 300 magazine titles would be under threat if the Royal Mail had chosen to go ahead with plans to introduce size-based pricing (see Magazines Under Threat From Royal Mail Plan).
