Kingston Communications To Launch Interactive Television Service
Hull-based telecoms operator Kingston Communications is set to launch Europe’s first interactive television service to run over normal telephone lines.
Kingston Interactive Television will use ADSL (asymmetrical digital subscriber line) technology to transform ordinary phone lines into high-speed digital lines and the service will include up to 55 digital channels, video-on-demand, internet access and email through a television set.
Available to 1,500 customers from 18 October, the group is planning to offer a complete rollout to its 155,000 customers across the company’s network in Hull and East Yorkshire shortly after, with an extension to the rest of the UK planned for the future. Chief executive Steve Maine said: “This announcement maintains our position at the forefront of ADSL technology, creating one of the most advanced telecommunications networks in the world.”
