Knowles To Step Down As NME Editor

Ben Knowles is to step down from editing of Emap’s NME, two and a half years after becoming the title’s youngest ever editor.

Knowles commented: “At the ripe old age of 28 I want to pursue new challenges that require the same excitement, enthusiasm and energy this one has given me. As well as some interesting journalistic offers I’ve had, I also want time to take some new opportunities in radio and TV.”

Circulation figures at the NME have not been music to Emap’s ears in recent years, but under Knowles a year on year increase of 0.6% as achieved in the July-December 2001 ABC figures (see ABC Jul – Dec 2001 Music Titles), the first such increase in four years.
