NTL has announced a £20m deal with MXR Ltd, to provide digital radio services across four UK regions.
The 12 year deal will see NTL provide digital multiplexing and transmission services, in North East England, South Wales/Severn Estuary, West Midlands and North West England, with services due to air in the summer. The company will also be responsible for contribution and distribution in these areas.
The work undertaken by NTL utilises new technologies, which have been developed to give programme providers greater flexibility when managing multiplex and data services.
Group technical director of Chrysalis (principle shareholders of MXR), Bruce Davidson said: “We worked closely on all four licence applications, and their contribution was instrumental to our success. NTL’s updated multiplex platform will give us much needed flexibility when it comes to running our services.”
The MXR consortium is made up of Chrysalis Radio, Capital Radio, Guardian Media Group, Soul Media, Spectrum Radio International, UBC Media, Psion and Ford.
