John Smith, Labour leader has died this morning after suffering a major heart attack at his London flat. He was 55. Mr Smith was taken to hospital but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 9.15am.
He suffered a major heart attack in 1988, but he appeared to have made a complete recovery.
