Lack Of Demand For Decoders Could Delay Digital TV

According to press reports the electronics manufacturers Pace Micro Technology, responsible for the production of digital television decoders, has said that it has not yet received any firm orders for the set top boxes. It is reported in the Times newspaper that the microchips for the decoders are not likely to be ready until Christmas. This will mean missing out on the major pre-Christmas market in consumer spending.

George Bridges, press officer at British Digital Broadcasting, told MediaTel “These are the views of one manufacturer, we are talking to lots of other manufacturers. We are still aiming to launch in the second half of next year.”
