The Independent Television Commission has not upheld complaints over the broadcast on Channel 4 of the controversial film – The Last Temptation of Christ.

The ITC received over 1,500 complaints from the public, complaining that the film was offensive to Christians. 1,459 of complaints were received before the film was shown. Of the 1,459 complainants, only 17 had seen the film; 95 complained after the film was broadcast.

The ITC accepted that the film was controversial and may be upsetting to some viewers but said ” Though the film may challenge the beliefs of some Christians, it does not involve any abusive treatment of those beliefs or any improper exploitation of any susceptibilities of those watching.”
