LG Electronics has announced plans to launch a curved screen smartphone, set to hit the shelves in 2014.
The phone is expected to curve from top to bottom, rather than from side to side, with the South Korean company stating that the panel would be “bendable and unbreakable”.
“The new display is vertically concave from top to bottom with a radius of 700mm, opening up a world of design innovations in the smartphone market,” LG said.
“What’s more, it is also the world’s lightest, weighing a mere 7.2g even with a six inch screen, the largest among current smartphone OLED displays.”
The news comes shortly after LG announced the sale of curved OLED televisions in South Korea, becoming the first company to offer such a product.
However, in the curved smartphone market, Samsung has already said that it intends to launch a curved phone – a special edition of the Galaxy Note 3 – later this month.
