Liberty Launches New Radio Station
Liberty Publishing is set to launch a new radio station, 963 Liberty, on the old Viva frequency. Mohammed Fayed, the owner of Liberty, bought Viva in May 1995 for £3m at a time when the station was struggling *(Fayed Buys Viva!). The station hopes to provide a “distinctive new format of speech and music” and will include entertainment, news, laughter and conversation.
Liberty launched *Punch Relaunch Issue Review magazine last month and has applied for the 104.9 FM London licence in the name of Rocket FM. The publishing company has also applied for three of the five East Kent radio licences under the name of Trident FM.
