Licence To Serve Channel Travellers
The Radio Authority has advertised a restricted service licence to run for eight years, to provide a travel information radio service along the M20 motorway between Maidstone and Folkestone and on to Dover.
Travel information of this nature seems likely to become increasingly important once the Channel Tunnel becomes operational, and would be a new type of service for the Authority and Independent Radio. It is unlikely that any other service of this type elsewhere in the UK would be considered until the usefulness of this licence has been proven. Once the initial eight year contract ends the licence may be reawarded without further advertisement at the discretion of the Radio Authority. The closing date for applications is November 2 1993.
