Lloyd Steps Down After Ten Years With DMA

Colin Lloyd has stepped down from his role as president of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) after nine years in the job. He is not taking on a new full-time role, but will instead consider increasing his non-executive directorships and consultancies.
Lloyd, who joined the DMA in 1993 as chief executive, has been credited with the growth of the organisation into Europe’s largest trade association in the marketing communications sector. In September 2000 he took on the specially created role of president, working alongside chief operating officer, James Kelly, who has now been promoted to managing director.
Commenting on his departure, Jenny Mosely, chairman of the DMA, said: “Colin’s leadership of the DMA contributed to the elevation of the direct marketing industry from being deemed by some as a secondary advertising medium to a successful industry sector, representing a spend of over £10 billion.”
Lloyd will continue in his roles as chairman of the Communication, Advertising and Education Foundation (CAM), and TrustUK, a government-backed organisation that promotes safe e-commerce.
Earlier in the year DMA unveiled a marketing campaign to develop consumer trust and confidence in direct marketing. The “Its Your Choice” initiative launched in February to promote the commitment by “responsible” direct marketers to respect consumers’ data protection and privacy rights (see DMA Aims To Boost Trust In Direct Marketing).
