Lloyd Webber Plans Independent Express

Details of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s plans for the Express Newspapers are given in this week’s Sunday Times. It is reported that the composer is prepared to invest up to £100m in a consortium bid for all the newspaper interests of United News and Media.

It is believed Lloyd Webber is looking for print partners in his bid for the titles, which would include not only the national tabloids but also in United News and Media’s regional newspapers, which include the Yorkshire Post.

Lloyd Webber told the Sunday Times that he would like to transform the papers from being loyal Conservative papers to politically independent papers; something which is at present lacking in the middle market newspapers.

Mirror Group and Tony O’Reilly’s Independent Newspapers are possible partners for Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group.
