Local Personalities Join Bid For South Wales Licence
Rugby legend Gareth Edwards and television weather presenter Sian Lloyd have joined the board of The Radio Corporation which is bidding to run the new regional radio service for the South Wales area.
Gareth Edwards will chair the consortium which is spearheading an application from The Rox-Wales 105, a new service which claims to be in tune with the spirit of Wales. Aimed at the 20-45 age group, its combination of rock and pop music with detailed news and sport reports is designed to reflect the issues of the nation.
The new licence has been advertised by the Radio Authority and will initially cover Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and the surrounding areas, to be further extended to cover the whole South Wales area.
Founding director of the Radio Corporation David Morris Jones said: “Our station will provide a service for those people who are making a such an enormous contribution to Wales and the future of Wales…it will resonate with their concerns and become part of the dialogue between the people of South Wales and the region as a whole.”
