Local Radio Licences; Applicants, Awards And Advertisements
The Radio Authority has received five applicants for the Wigan local licence. The licence will cover the town of Wigan and the surrounding area, including St Helens and Skelmersdale.
The applicants are:
Hear FM (Wigan) Ltd: Russell Stuart, 01603 630621 Classic hits from the 60s to today, with extensive local news
Jet FM (Magic FM Ltd): Paul Birchall, 01942 824224 Local news and sports coverage, mixed with popular music
Tower 102.4 FM (Saffron Blaze Ltd): Godfrey Williams, 01978 752202 Popular music from the 1960s to the present, with local news and sport
Wireless FM: Carl Schofield, 01254 853396 Music-based service orientated towards the 25-45 age group
Wish 102.4 FM: Tony Dewhurst, 01257 480715 Classic hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s, classic rock and news, views and sport
There were three applications received for the new local licence for the Heads of South Wales Valleys. This AM licence will cover from Rhondda to Abergavenny and Pontypool. Applicants are:

A new FM regional licence has been advertised for the East Midlands area, to cover the cities of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby. The closing date is May 21, and the award of the licence should be made within 3 months. A new FM local licence for Oxford has also been advertised, and should cover a more localised area than the existing Fox FM.
The Authority has also re-awarded four local licences, for the areas of Thames Valley, Borders, Milton Keynes and South Hampshire. All four licences have been re-awarded to the incumbents, ie Thames Valley Broadcasting, Radio Borders, Horizon Radio and Ocean Sound.
