Local Radio Licences Awarded

The Radio Authority has announced the award of the re-advertised ILR FM licence for the Bradford area to the incumbent, Sunrise FM. The new licence will come into effect on 1 January 1995.

The local radio licence for Belfast has been re-awarded to 96.7 BCR (Belfast Community Radio Services Ltd), the existing licensee. The new licence will come into effect on 1 January 1995.

The Radio Authority has also announced that it is making a provisional offer of the local licence for the Fort William area to Nevis Radio. The award is conditional upon the group confirming that it has the necessary funding.

The Irish Independent Radio and Television Commission is seeking applications from parties interested in establishing community radio stations. The expressions of interest, which will not be regarded as applications for a sound broadcasting contract, have to be with the Commission by March 4th.

The commission hopes to issue contracts for a number of pilot community radio stations in mid-1994 for an 18-month period.
