London Country Radio, one of the new stations to be awarded a franchise last Friday, has announced details of its programming.
It will provide a 24 hour service of country music. This will include western, folk, cajun, country rock and country rock n’ roll.
The majority of output will be locally originated, with a small proportion of USA output to include transmissions from Nashville, country music’s home. Programming from the USA is expected to account for 5% of total output.
The same sources will be used both at weekends and during weekdays to ensure a uniform sound all the time. Off-peak hours will however provide the opportunity to include more specialist country music. Sunday programming will include a fair amount of gospel.
The station claims it is committed to giving British and Irish Country Music generous airplay.
Following Friday’s announcement that LBC is to lose its franchise to London News Radio, LBC has promised to fight the decision, with management considering applying for a judicial review in the High Court.
