London’s Magic 105.4 has been named station of year at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards, an event organised by RadioCentre – the industry body for commercial radio.
Bauer managed to bag three wins at the ceremony, held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London yesterday, with awards handed out to Neil Fox, Andy Roberts and Magic.
Neil Fox won the Arquiva Gold Award for his breakfast slot on Magic, with judges saying he had “been a driving force in helping Magic 105.4 win one of this year’s station of the year awards”.
Kiss 100’s Andy Roberts picked up the Programmer of the Year award. Judges said that he had “taken real risks with the station which had paid off”.
Mark Storey, programming director at Bauer Radio, said: “All of us at Bauer Radio are thrilled with these prestigious awards. For Magic 105.4 in its 10th year to win Station of the Year, have Neil Fox receive the Gold award and of course Kiss’ Andy Roberts taking top programmer is a tribute to the great talent of our people.”
2007 Gold award winner talkSPORT took home two awards for National Sales Team of the Year and Station Sound, with judges commenting: “talkSPORT’s imaging was not only clever but unique, distinctive and with a certain style.”
Virgin Radio picked up the prize for Feature of the Year for their coverage of the 2007 V Festival. Clive Dickens, the station’s new chief operating officer, said: “These awards are truly the most conveted in the commercial radio industry.”
Dickens added: “We could not be more proud that just one week into our new ownership, our team has demonstrated yet again its award winning credentials with this victory.”
