LOVEFiLM enters new content deal with Channel 4

LoveFilm logoAmazon’s streaming service LOVEFiLM has announced a new content deal with Channel 4, giving subscribers access to the broadcaster’s 4 on Demand (4oD) archive service.

The deal strengthens LOVEFiLM’s TV offering just a week after online video on demand aggregator Oric revealed research that claimed Netflix had a significantly higher amount of TV content in the UK.

The agreement will enable consumers to stream many of Channel 4’s popular titles including the multi-award-winning Peep Show, Father Ted and The Inbetweeners through their smart TVs and other connected devices.

The new content will be collated in a specially-branded 4oD collection that will expand over time to feature many more Channel 4 shows including seven series of Shameless and every episode of The IT Crowd.

Jim Buckle, managing director at LOVEFiLM said: “Our TV offering has gone from strength to strength and this deal will bring even more iconic British content to the service. We’re proud to offer more diverse and exciting instant television programming to our members than any other subscription service.”

Last week’s report from Oric highlighted that while LOVEFiLM triumphed on film content (not including their extensive rental back catalogue) it fell short on TV series. The Amazon-owned company only had 589 TV series available compared to Netflix’s 925.
