Lycos Launches Eighties Nostalgia Channel

Lycos UK is launching a new free-to-access online channel called Remember The 80s, in an attempt to allow users to re-visit the decade and sample the music, films and fashion of the era.

The channel will feature specially designed web pages which reflect the style of the eighties and will later expand to cover the sixties, seventies and nineties.

The new channel will also include a chat area and users will be able to download their favourite piece of nostalgia and forward it on to friends. They will also be able to rate eighties icons and the most popular reminders of each era will be compiled into a top ten list for each decade.

Alex Kovach, managing director of Lycos UK & Ireland, commented: “The popularity of events such as ‘School Disco’ and seventies and eighties nights illustrate that people enjoy looking back over the years, often with rose-tinted glasses, and this gave us the idea for the Nostalgia 80s Channel. And the great thing about it will be the ability for our users to create the content themselves.”

Late last year Lycos secured a £250,000 online and offline promotional deal with British Airways, featuring ads on Lycos UK, as well as permission based SMS, email marketing and chat sponsorship (see Lycos Secures British Airways Promotion).
