MacKenzie Leaves Mirror Group To Bid For Talk Radio

Deputy chief executive and group managing director of Mirror Group, Kelvin MacKenzie, is to leave the company to form a bid consortium for Talk Radio.

MacKenzie has held the deputy chief executive’s position for only six months. He was brought in to the Group by Mirror chief executive David Montgomery to work on the Live! TV cable channel, following his infamous time at The Sun.

He said: “I have had a terrific time at the Mirror Group and owe David Montgomery a tremendous debt of gratitude but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity which I could not let go by.”

Talk Radio was recently put up for sale by its owners CLT-UFA (see CLT To Examine Bids For Its UK Radio Stations). For this project MacKenzie is being financed by Apax Partners & Co., the company which put together Chris Evans’ bid for Virgin Radio.

It is understood that CLT-UFA is considering leading bids from US group Jancor Communications and London News Radio, although no formal announcement has yet been made.
