Magazines Launch VAT Ad Campaign
Publishers of some 1,500 magazines have launched a national advertising campaign in advance of the Autumn Budget, to try and influence opinion against the possibility of a tax on reading.
The ads will appear in magazines throughout the country and feature comments made by John Major on the standard of education in this country, such as “I want to work for a Britain that is the best educated”.
Ian Locks, Chief Executive of the Periodical Publishers Association said “Taxing reading is a very strange thing to do if you want people to read.”
