Maiden Outdoor Boosts Offering With New Marketing Deal

Maiden Outdoor has struck a deal with Harlech Outdoor to market its portfolio of sites in Wales and the West Country.

The deal with the region’s largest independent contractor strengthens Maiden’s portfolio outside of London with an additional 230 panels, including 210 48-sheets, 17 96-sheet billboards and three 48-sheet ultravision panels.

The agreement, which takes effect from the beginning of April, includes the HTV, WCTV and Meridian TV regions. It comes just weeks after Maiden Outdoor expanded its portfolio of Irish poster sites, with the acquisition of a number of ad panels from National Outdoor Displays (see Maiden Expands Portfolio Of Irish Poster Sites).

The group also recently announced that turnover is not likely to achieve the levels anticipated at the release of its financial results in September (see Maiden Pushed Into Red By Tough First Half), due to advertising lead-in times remaining short and general inconsistency of advertiser demand.

A UK-wide ban on tobacco advertising (see Government Puts Deadlines On Tobacco Ad Ban), which is expected reduce outdoor’s annual revenue by 3%, comes into force today. However, the industry received a boost earlier this month with the latest figures from the Outdoor Advertising Association showing that revenues rose by 15% year on year during the fourth quarter of 2002 to reach £187.8 million (see Outdoor Revenue Rises By 15% During Quarter Four 2002).
