Maiden Profits Drop After ‘Testing Year’
Maiden, the outdoor posters group, has this morning posted a fall in profits during 1998, a year which chief executive, Ron Zeghibe, describes as ‘financially testing’. Maiden’s pre-tax profits fell by 35.4% year on year to £6.5 million. This was largely due to poor trading in poster ad sites during the World Cup months.
Sales were slightly up by 3.3% to £65.3 million (£63.2 million in 1997). Earnings per share fell back from 17.7p to 11.3p.
“The outdoor industry is rationalising and consolidating, both in the UK and internationally, and Maiden is well positioned to benefit from this market situation. We have a good base from which to develop,” says Zeghibe.
Maiden is now the only independent and national outdoor poster group in the UK and has a portfolio of 48-, 96- and 6-sheet poster sites across the country.
