Mail On Sunday Editor Dismissed

Jonathon Holborow, editor of the Mail On Sunday, has been dismissed from his post after six years with the paper. He will be replaced by the current deputy editor of the Daily Mail, Peter Wright.

Holborow is currently on holiday but will not go back to Associated Newspapers when he returns. It is understood that the decision to sack him was made by the new Lord Rothermere, Jonathon Harmsworth, who took over chairmanship of Associated after the death of his father, Vere, at the beginning of this month.

Although the Associated Newspapers statement made no reference to it, incidents such as the front page apology to actress Brooke Shields, made in June following an inaccurate story that she was searched for drugs at Nice airport, will have weakened Holborow’s position.

The statement given by Associated at the weekend said that Holborow had decided to take “early retirement”.
