Mail Online was once again the most popular national newspaper website, taking the top spot over the month of August.
According to data released by ABCe, the Associated News website had 28.6 million unique users, keeping it at the top for three months running. However, the website actually lost traffic month on month in August, down 1.2 million users.
Guardian.co.uk, beginning to settle in second place, was down 340,000 users since July. With 26.6 million users viewing the site over August Guardian.co.uk has seen its audience grow by 15.3% YOY.
All of the audited websites lost users since the last data release. Telegraph.co.uk was down 1.6 million keeping it in third place. Since the website broke the 20 million mark in June 2008 it has kept the momentum up, peaking with 27.7 in March this year. Year on year, Telegraph.co.uk has enjoyed an increase of 12.6%.
Retaining fourth place was Sun Online with 23.8 million users, although it was down 1.3 million over the month.

Times Online continued to slip below the 20 million point, reporting 18.7 million users. In September 2008 the website broke through the 20 million barrier to build users each month, peaking at 22 million in January this year.
Also remaining in the same position as July although with a slight loss in users was Mirror Group, at 9.04 million unique users. This was a loss of 1.3 million since July, although there is a healthy year on year increase of 62.2%.
Independent.co.uk was down 4% on July’s figures at 8 million unique users.
