Major Radio Stations Join Sky Digital For Satellite Broadcast

Satellite television broadcaster, BSkyB, has announced a deal with number of major UK radio groups to broadcast their stations on the Sky Digital platform. From 20 November Sky Digital will offer 20 radio broadcasts, including three brand new digital stations from the GWR Group – The Mix, Planet Rock and Core.

Sky, the first digital TV platform to offer radio services, will also carry Talk Radio, Virgin Radio, Classic FM, the BBC’s five national stations and the World Service. BBC Radio Ulster, Radio Scotland and Radio Wales will all be available to listeners outside their own regions, as the Sky Digital signal reaches almost all of the UK. This also means that Capital’s alternative station, Xfm, will now reach a national audience, as will regional services Capital Gold and Classic Gold.

BSkyB chief executive Tony Ball says: “The addition of radio services to Sky Digital further enhances digital satellite television and Sky Digital’s offering to viewers.”

GWR Group is launching its three new stations today – more details will be available on Newsline shortly.
