Male Nudity Provokes BSC Complaints
A noticeable number of the complaints made to the Broadcasting Standards Commission in a report published today were provoked by incidences of male nudity.
Tarrant on TV received 11 complaints in regard to male nudity, some of which concerned an item which showed an Indian Holy man lifting a rock with his penis. The BSC decided that the footage was beyond acceptable boundaries for a programme of that nature and the complaint was upheld. Other complaints involving full frontal male nudity pictures were dropped, as the BSC acknowledged that although they might not be to everyone’s taste, they were not erotic or salacious in tone.
The talk show Kilroy, which was shown live, also received a spate of complaints when a member of the audience in the studio unexpectedly exposed himself on air. Despite the fact that the presenter expressed his disapproval, and the man was removed immediately, the BSC decided that the incident had caused offence nonetheless and the complaint was upheld.
