Man Utd. Launches Own TV Channel

Manchester United’s club-dedicated digital television channel, MUTV, was launched by club manager, Alex Ferguson, yesterday.
The channel, which is a joint venture between the football club, BSkyB and Granada (see Man United Channel Confirmed), will broadcast for six hours a day from 10 September. Initially, it will be available only to Sky subscribers, via Sky Digital, for £4.99 a month.
The channel will feature reserve and youth team games as well as nightly news bulletins. Interviews, pre-match press-conferences and breaking news will also form part of the channel’s offerings.
Separately, Border Television has announced that its Manchester radio station, Century 105FM, has secured exclusive commercial station rights to broadcast United games commentary for all matches, excluding those in the Champions League, for the next four years.
Border yesterday rejected a takeover offer from Scottish Radio Holdings (see Border TV Rebuffs Takeover Approach) claiming that the approach was unsolicited and that it undervalued the company’s shares. Following this, Border TV’s shares closed yesterday up 36p at 341p.
