Management Shake Up At IPC

IPC Media has announced a series of new appointments, including the promotion of former Nova publisher, Elaine Foran, to director of the newly created central international and fashion sales group.

In the new role, Foran, reporting to IPC advertising MD, Georgina Crace, will manage sales strategy and client and editorial liaison across all IPC titles including Marie Clare, Woman’s Journal and Loaded. She will be assisted by former ad director of Nova, Paula Cain, in the new position of ad director for international and fashion.

Foran said: “IPC have never had a proper strategy before, its been very much hit and miss. I intend to take things a lot more seriously and give IPC’s marketing a lot more direction.”

As part of the shake up, Margaret Leonard, who currently oversees client liaison and commercial strategy across the Marie Claire range, will take on responsibility for Woman’s Journal, reporting to IPC Southbank’s group ad director, Clare Dove. Ad director for Marie Claire titles, Jayne Reynolds, will also expand her role to include Woman’s Journal, and will report to Leonard.

Foran denied claims that the struggling title, Woman’s Journal, is being cross-sold with Marie Claire, adding: “IPC is simply strengthening its hand by bringing more senior talent on board.”

Commenting on the recent spate of closures in the consumer magazine industry (see Feature: Has The Consumer Magazine Industry Reached Saturation Point?) Foran said: “Things look bad for the consumer magazine industry, but its not a bad time. The influx of new titles just means there’s far more choice. With magazines it’s a case of who shouts the loudest wins. Nova and Bare were two of the most interesting titles to emerge for a long time, but they just didn’t have the marketing budgets to succeed.”
