Managing Editor Leaves Independent

Charles Burgess, managing editor of The Independent, has left the paper, his role being taken up by assistant editor Colin Hughes. Burgess had been at the paper since prior to its launch, but said there was not really a job for him there anymore.

Further problems loom with production staff voting to take industrial action over the imposition of a five shift week. Talks may take place at Acas.
