March 2001 RAJAR – Local Commercial Stations

The March 2001 RAJAR figures for local commercial radio show that weekly reach has decreased quarter on quarter from 26.2m to 26.1m or 1% quarter on quarter, now standing at 54%. Local commercial radio’s share of listening has risen for the same period, by 0.4 percentage points to 38.3.

The following tables show the best and worst performers, in terms of weekly reach and share of listening, of the local commercial stations broadcasting outside London.

The largest percentage increase in terms of weekly reach was seen at Kentish radio station Medway FM which increased by 36.8% to achieve 26,000. The worst was Yorkshire’s Big AM, which, with 33,000, had dropped 31.3% in its weekly reach compared to the quarter ended December 2000.

The best performance in terms of share of listening was Scottish “Sallie” licnence Wave 102, which increased its share during the quarter by 3.5 percentage points. The largest fall in share was seen at Chiltern FM, which fell 4.6 percentage points to 13%.

The only new station reporting was Real Radio, owned by GMG. Ritz Country 1035 is reporting on a new TSA and the following name changes have occurred: Yorkshire Coast Radio has changed to Yorkshire Coast Radio (Scarborough); Brid FM has changed to Yorkshire Coast Radio (Bridlington); Minster FM (inc. Yorkshire Coast Radio & Brid FM) has changed to Minster FM (inc. Yorkshire Coast Radio (Scarborough) and Yorkshire Coast Radio (Bridlington); 96.3 Aire FM has changed to 96.3 Radio Aire; Marcher Coast 96.3 FM has changed to Coast 96.3 FM; GWR East has changed to GWR Anglia Region; GWR South East has changed to GWR London Region; GWR Midlands has changed to GWR Central Region; GWR North West has changed to GWR North West Region; GWR South West has changed to GWR Westcountry Region; GWR West has changed to GWR West Region.
