It was the final of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? on Saturday evening and the second instalment of the show was the most watched programme on the night.
The first Maria of the evening, on BBC One at 6.30pm, attracted a peak audience of 5.2 million adults (a 29% audience share).
The second programme, which revealed who would get to play the eponymous heroine in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Sound of Music, attracted a peak audience of 7.5 million viewers (a 36.3% audience share).
Over on ITV1, the X Factor and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway both performed strongly for the channel, with the X Factor, up against the first instalment of Maria, attracting a peak audience of 6.6 million adults (a 35% audience share).
Ant and Dec meanwhile, brought in an average audience of 6.2 million adults (a 32.5% audience share), a figure which peaked at 6.7 million adults (a 34.3% share) just before the end of the show.
