Marie O’Riordan has announced that she will step down as editor of the women’s monthly magazine, Marie Claire, at the end of the year.
O’Riordan took over as editor of the IPC title in May 2001, after working for Emap on youth titles Bliss, J17, Look and Minx.
IPC confirmed her departure and said they have already started searching for a replacement.
O’Riordan said: “After a long and happy stint on Marie Claire, I’m off to fresh woods. It’s been a privilege to work for a magazine whose readers – I think uniquely – manage to combine seriousness with fabulousness and a little kindness.”
In May 2002, O’Riordan became the first editor to put a man on the front cover, featuring David Beckham in an exclusive photograph and interview session.
The latest ABC figures reveal that Marie Claire‘s circulation was down nearly 5% year on year, to around 317,000 copies (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2008:Glamour Takes The Lead In The Women’s Monthly Sector).
