Marketing Salaries Defy Advertising Downturn
![]()
Despite the ongoing advertising downturn marketing professionals received a 4% average pay increase last year, according to the annual salary survey carried out by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
However, the gap between male and female marketing directors is widening, with women getting paid 12.9% less than their male counterparts, compared with a 10.4% gap last year.
This was not the only negative statistic in the report, with 31% of marketing professionals saying they have no promotion prospects in their present company, compared with 23% in 2001. There is also evidence that ‘work-life’ balance strategies are not being implemented, with marketers typically working between 41 and 45 hours a week.
On a brighter note, job satisfaction is on the up, with the number of respondents actively looking for a new job dropping to 20% in 2002, down from 30% in 2001.
The survey was carried out by the R£ward group, which received around 1,100 completed questionnaires from the 26,000 sent out to CIM members.
