May’s Outdoor Bookings Down On Last Year

Outdoor advertising bookings for May have dropped significantly year on year according to the latest figures released by Concord. Downturn in the US advertising market, prolonged election uncertainty and the foot and mouth epidemic have been the primary causes.

The industry wide lull is expected to continue into June, with both rates and volume of booking down on the previous year, but is likely improve in July and August. May’s figures appear in contrast to last year’s period of prosperity, which saw the rising cost of TV advertising push large amounts of revenue towards the outdoor industry.

The top three contributors to outdoor market revenue in May, according to Concord were; Coca-Cola which spent £2.78m, Nestle with an ad-spend of £2.38m and Channel 5 with a total advertising expenditure of £1.78m.
